COMPANY HISTORY

Robért Fresh Market:  A History

Marc and Darlene Robért envisioned a neighborhood-oriented, full-service market filled with the highest quality fresh produce (supplied by local growers whenever possible), hard to find gourmet items, signature offerings made from scratch in the food service and bakery departments, and prime cuts of meat.  In 1994, they opened their first Robért Fresh Market in Metairie, LA at the corner of Transcontinental and West Esplanade.  Word quickly spread about the new, friendly, family-oriented neighborhood grocery store and how responsive they were to their customers’ expectations and requests.

Excited by the success of their first Robért Fresh Market, the Robérts wanted to bring their vision to a new area.  In 1996, they branched out into the New Orleans lakefront neighborhood of Lakeview, opening a larger store on Robert E. Lee Blvd. at West End, and adding more products and services in a direct response to what the neighborhood wanted and needed.  They provided the community with a mix of gourmet purchases, convenient necessities, fresh, locally-grown produce, and bakery goods and prepared foods made by Robért’s own bakers and chefs.

Over the next few years the stores continued to serve their unique neighborhood niches.  The Robérts expanded the offerings in all areas of the markets, including fresh cut flowers and colorful floral arrangements, food-to-go departments, deli catering, sugar-free baked goods, freshly prepared sushi, and organically grown foods.

In July of 1999, the Robérts took advantage of an opportunity to bring their vision to even more communities and added four more markets.  The desire to serve and satisfy residents of specific neighborhoods would now be brought to the New Orleans neighborhoods of Faubourg Marigny/Bywater (near St. Claude and Elysian Fields), Mid-City (both on Broad St. and at the corner of Canal and Claiborne) and the Warehouse District (on Annunciation St.).

This native New Orleans couple knows their community.  When the Robérts design a market for a particular neighborhood, they strive to meet the needs of their neighbors, the people who live nearby and who enjoy shopping at a fresh and inviting store filled with quality goods and helpful associates.  Their mission is to create a friendly, neighborly market atmosphere and stock their store on a customer responsive basis.

The associates of Robért Fresh Market follow this same philosophy.  Customer satisfaction is the most important goal.  To meet customer needs, associates keep the shelves, cases and bins filled with a carefully chosen selection of fresh and organic produce, locally produced and specialty items, and goods of superior quality.  Customers know and recognize the friendly, motivated and helpful associates, and they enjoy the prompt, attentive and expert service.

In August of 2005 the New Orleans region met the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.  Many of the markets and the communities they served sustained catastrophic damage.  As the company and the city rebuild, Robért Fresh Market looks forward to returning to communities and serving them with fresh, full-service, family-oriented and customer responsive neighborhood markets.
